The Burleigh Brewing Keg Jump 2021 went down last Thursday with a massive turnout, a steady flow of brews and plenty of wild stunts.
This year’s Burleigh Keg Jump was a celebratory evening of craft beer, world-class skateboarding, and some cash donated to Trent Riley’s family in the process. With 20-odd skaters let loose on an array of obstacles arranged on the brewery floor, there were cash and beer prizes for the best tricks, and a roaring crowd soaking it all in.
The main event is pretty much what it sounds like: a kicker set up with kegs lined up for the competing skaters to ollie. As the kegs stack up, the skaters who fail to clear the distance are eliminated, leaving just a couple of long leapers hanging on, throwing themselves over the massive row of kegs.
Nixen Osborne and Dani Campbell were the joint winners of the 2021 Keg Jump, both managing to clear 11 kegs, equalling the 2019 record set by Sam Atkins, and taking out the Golden Growler award, along with a year of free beer and $2000 each.
This kickflip was a breeze for Jackson Pilz, and he followed it up with kicky melon (much to Russell Grundy’s delight on Insta), and a switch front heel! Photo by Darren Kirby.

But it wasn’t all about the kegs. The night also saw skaters hitting a kicker to ledge and a kicker over a pallet of beers. Envelopes filled with cold, hard cash were handed out in exchange for hammers. The line-up of skateboarders included Jackson Pilz, Andrew Beauchamp, Dennis Durrant, Mitchell “Mashy” Howse, Joel Mcilroy, Chase Jaeger, Joey Cormack, Sam Atkins and Julian Lee, amongst others.

Burleigh Brewing Co donated $4000 for Trent Riley’s family and midway through the evening, the skaters and onlookers took a moment to watch John Green’s tribute video of Trent. Shannon Riley, Trent’s older brother, explained in a speech that the family will spend the donated funds developing a plan to make Moreton Bay safer for those out on the water, seeking to buy some GPS watches that will initiate instant rescues.

Between the array of tricks that went down, the steady flow of craft beers and the money donated to the Riley’s, it was an epic celebration of skateboarding. And next year is set to be even bigger and better with many pros and top female skateboarders competing who were unable to travel due to border restrictions. In the meantime, stay tuned for the highlight video.
