The world watched on today as Poppy Olsen was the first Australian skateboarder to qualify in an Olympic final. Poppy ticked off many of her signature moves like a giant judo air and an epic ollie up to rockin’ slide to make the final eight. But after a fall on the last trick of her final run, the 21-year-old from Newy missed her chance at a medal.

The formidable Japanese competitors dominated and took the top two spots on the podium, with 19-year-old Sakura Yosozumi winning gold and Kokona Hiraki, 12, winning silver. Misugu Okamoto, 15, was the favourite to win, but Sky Brown, 13, nailed her last run to knock Misugu off the podium.
